CHANIA: The Perfecture and the city

The reference to Chania in our company's title does not just allude to the beautiful city that bares that name but to the prefecture of Chania.

The prefecture of Chania is one of four major provinces of Crete. Chania province occupies 2,376 square kilometers of Western Crete.

Chania province is also divided into five major regions Kidonia, Apokronos, Kissamos, Selino and Sfakia.

The major town of Kidonia is Chania city. Vamos is the chief village of the Apokronos region. Kastelli (Kissamos) is the administrative centre of the Kissamos region. The major town of the Sfakia is Hora Sfakia. Selino's capital is Kandanos.

Just south of the city of Chania lies the Massif of the Lefka Mountains (White Mountains) providing a dramatic backdrop to most of the area. So in addition to Chania's exquisite coast line Chania province provides a paradise for nature lovers.

Dozens of gorges and numerous ravines, rivers, plateaus and mountain peaks make the Lefka Massif a place of wonderment.

The most famous gorge is the Samarian Gorge which was declared a National Park in 1962. One of the natural wonders of the world.
