Crete is the southern most island in Europe this ensures a wonderful year round climate of 300 days of sunshine. It is much more than just another Greek island. Not only does it have stunning beaches but also boasts breath taking mountain ranges dotted with idyllic villages.

What is the climate in Crete?
Crete has a Mediterranean climate. Long, dry and hot summers and mild sunny winter winters especially in the south although winters can be colder inland in northern areas mostly. It has 300 days of sunshine every year. The average temperature in the summer is 25 C (77F). In the south it rarely rains in the summer.

What is the cost the standard of living?
Crete has one of the lowest costs of living in the E U. Athens is more expensive than the re sot the country. The standard of living is quite high.
How about building standards in Crete?
The design and construction of buildings in Crete comply with European Regulations and standards. Furthermore, stringent regulations exist for earthquake protection.
What about Health Care in Crete?
Crete has a National Health Service for those who pay social security but private health insurance is also very common. It (Crete) has reciprocal health agreements with many countries and retirees from E U countries enjoy free medical treatment. Some private hospitals have entered into agreements with other European countries (e.g. the UK) offering treatment citizens of those countries under their respective National Health Systems.
What is the Crime rate?
Crete is generally safe and serious an/or organized crime is rare. There are no recognized "no go areas" at any time of day or night.
Other Issues
There is no restriction to live and work in Crete for E U nationals. Others must apply for permission. Resident permits are a formality for E U citizens, although non-working residents must have sufficient income to maintain themselves in Crete. Visitors can stay without any formality but if someone wants to stay longer a resident permit is required. Work permits are not necessary for E U nationals.
